Quinn guided the BMW down a rough track of road, and the way the SUV handled it made him think he’d have to get one when he had the money. This was one Las rented while he stayed in Edinburgh. He still felt some of the surprise from when he woke up that morning and Las told him he wanted to see the countryside, but it was also a nice change from what they’d been doing in the past five days since the club show, sleeping, fucking, shopping, eating.
He was having a good time at it all, but it was starting to feel like that’s exactly what Las was, a good time. And now after spending so much time with him, he knew that wasn’t all he wanted. Hell, he’d known that a lot earlier on.
Quinn glanced at him in the passenger seat as he watched the countryside roll by. He was so beautiful on the outside, but when they talked, especially about music, Las seemed like he was lost. It was hard for him to understand. How could anyone who had such a beautiful gift and immense talent not know where they wanted to take it?
As if sensing Quinn’s gaze on him, Las glanced to the side. A smile curved his lips. “It’s really beautiful out here. The hills, the fields, the cottages, the forests…”
“You don’t get out of the city much, do you?” “No, not really. I can understand why you’d never want to leave Scotland for good. I think even I could be happy living here.”
Quinn glanced at him again. “You could?”
“Yeah.”
“Aren’t you happy in New York?”
Las shrugged. “I enjoy it, but I haven’t felt at home anywhere for a long time. It’s funny, I travel so much to play with different orchestras, along with touring when I have my own albums out, you’d think when I have downtime, I’d want to stay home and relax, but I’m always anxious for my next gig. I actually don’t think I’ve stayed home for an entire month straight. Even if I don’t leave for work, I do to visit family or friends. But here, I’ve felt content.”
Quinn gave Las’s hand a playful tug. “It’s probably just because you’re getting laid so much.”
Las laughed softly. “There is that. And you do give it to me better than I’ve ever had it in my life.” Quinn looked at him again, surprised by the comment and the warmth in Las’s voice. Las had his head turned toward him, resting on the headrest as he gazed at him. Quinn lifted his hand to brush along the edge of Las’s stubble covered jaw.
Las closed his eyes, savoring the touch. He took Quinn’s hand and guided it to his lips, placing a soft kiss on his fingers. He lowered their hands together back to the gear shift, keeping his resting on top of Quinn’s.
He rolled his head on the headrest to look once again out the passenger window. Minutes of comfortable silence passed by until he lifted his free hand and pointed toward a steep grassy hill.
